Novak Djokovic loses chance to defend Australian Open title as court upholds deportation

Novak Djokovic’s hopes of enjoying at the Australian Open had been dashed Sunday after a court disregarded the highest-ranked tennis star’s attraction against a deportation order.

3 Federal Court judges upheld a call made on Friday through the immigration minister to cancel the 34-12 months-antique Serb’s visa on public hobby grounds.

the decision most probably means that Djokovic, who is not vaccinated in opposition to COVID-19, will remain in detention in Melbourne till he is deported.

A deportation order usually also includes a 3-year ban on returning to Australia.

The minister cancelled the visa on the grounds that Djokovic’s presence in Australia is also a risk to the well being and “just right order” of the Australian public and “is also counterproductive to efforts at vaccination through others in Australia.”

Djokovic’s visa was once to begin with cancelled on Jan. 6 at Melbourne’s airport hours after he arrived to compete within the first Grand Slam of 2022.

A border legitimate cancelled his visa after finding out Djokovic didn’t qualify for a medical exemption from Australia’s rules for unvaccinated guests.
